"Since I was a child I was fascinated by the world of dinosaurs. I tried to imagine how our homes could look like if we could bring in some parts of those huge creatures".

Sofia Lagerkvist, Anna Lindgren, Charlotte von der Lancken and Katja Sävström were selected in 2003 for the "Satellite", a collateral Pavillion to the Salone del Mobile in Milan. This year they came back with different pieces of their collections.

Here are some of their work. Funny, somehow intrestingly kitsch, sophisticate. They're already being called the "anti-Ikea" but in fact, they actually worked with the swedish multinational brand proposing lamps and chairs.

Their work ranges from chairs to vases, fom art to sculptural furniture. From fake-bookshelves to horse with a lamp on their head!

Chairs from the Nanook Collection. Their structure reminds us of natural forms. Very ancient in the idea behind its design but very futuristic in regards of its technology. Resin structure with printed fabric.

Tap of the future! The architect joins brassware british manufacturer Triflow for this very architectural everyday piece.
"The design is a formal expression of the continuous flow of liquid - merging the spout, body and handle of the tap in a seamless trajectory of curvilinear geometries".

Zaha Hadid is also working with French-based fashion label Lacoste to create a footwear collection that's slated for release in spring/summer 2009.

Now, for his latest projecthe asked Roman Polanski to direct a commercial ( with cui Michelle Williams and Natalie Portman) for a fragrance he invented: "Greed a new fragrance by Francesco Vezzoli". The fragrance will be presented to the world from today til the 21st of march at the Gagosian Gallery in Rome. Vezzoli wants to provoke the public with an imaginary fragrance with advertisement and a video commercial replicating the strategies and the aesthetic of a real product.

A calendar about the idea of "energy". Each month is characterized by a page of matches, each one of them represents a day. A very original idea by a Ukranian artist.

"The idea was to create as unique a calendar so that the process of its presenting would become an outstanding event. Alongside with this, it was important to expose the idea of "energy", as it is predetermined by the name and logo of the company. Each page is a month and it looks like a comb made of matches that correspond to the days. The matches are real and the construction of the calendar is absolutely safe".

This is the winning project for a competition located in Rødovre, an independent municipality of Denmark, where a new residential tower was needed.

The new skyscraper includes a hotel, apartments, stores and offices.

The design is based on a grid of boxes, or "pixels," which are ~646 square feet each and arranged around the building's central core. The tower is 116 flexible meters.

"Teenagers typically yearn for solitary time to contemplate their experiences and figure out who they are. The ESCAPsulE provides a private space for that journey, a space to mould an identity. Within the chair the teenager seeks refuge and discovers calm. They are hidden from the outside world while discovering and creating their own world in a contained space. The chair itself features inner pockets to hide personals and a flip down desktop to hold a laptop. The design combines a retro style beanbag interior, with a buff, smooth roto-moulded polyethylene exterior. There is absolutely no doubt, in my mind, that food is art. Food itself, when cooked and presented in a certain way is not that different from a piece of art, a painting or a sculpture. Only if I think of Ferran Adrià, an excellent cook specialized in "culinary foam", art is what comes to my mind.

Obviously presentation in food is essential. And presenting food in these plates will certainly make the difference!

It is about the making of your own cocoon where you can transfer your emotions and needs, into this space that becomes both public and private or natural and artificial, creating a contradiction who leads the project since the very begining. For this project the artist used bioplastics, which means that in a couple of months the "construction" will disappear leaving again nature to occupy the empty space.

I find this one of the most provocatory work I've seen lately! Airports are those symbolic places of control paranoia. This artist, through his work, makes sort of fun of the entire annoying situation! When taking a plane he puts in his suitcase laser cut 8.5 x 11 inch pieces of stainless steel with messages directed at the T.S.A. You can imagine what happens at the airport inspections! Sometimes they laugh but sometimes they don't!

"Stack"!

Stack drawers have been put into production by British manufacturers Established & Sons and were launched in Milan at the Salone del Mobile.
These individual, multi-coloured, 'floating' drawer units are built up to different heights, creating a tower of drawers that can be pushed and pulled in both directions. Very interesting design!

Shay Alkalay's creativity designing everyday functional pieces goes beyond the formal expression. This Pivot cabinet is certainly another good example.

Change has Come!!!!!

I am back! Very tired since I was up almost all night watching the live coverage on CNN. It has been a very emotional night. Many coffees to stay awake, couple of cigarettes and text messages with friends sharing our feelings about the long night ahead of us. Eventhough I had couple of double shots espresso there were times I felt asleep, to wake up couple of minutes later trying to figure out what I've missed! There were times where it was worse than watching a tennis game.
But then finally the big moment came: Barack Obama - the next President of the United States of America. Unbelievable! Eventhough I was miles away I could feel the joy of people assembling in parks, piazzas, street across the country. Obama's speech made me cry of joy. Listening to him you really realize there is hope. For america and for the rest of the world.
Even the candidate who lost the "battle" turned out to be a great man. His speech to congratulate obama was very touching. Only in America these things happens.
The best part of all was the participation of people. Not only during the day, but during the entire campaign. People finally started to believe again. Believe that a change is really possible. Yesterday was the perfect example. When I hear people here during election times say "I dont care...one or the other is the same...nothing is going to change"...open your eyes people! It is you, us who can make changes. By chosing who we believe can make it happen!

Tomorrow, november 4th, is going to be a very import day for all of us. Election day will be followed from eveywhere around the world to see who the next President of the United states of America is going to be. I will do the same here, in switzerland. I will closely follow during the day (and night since I will be on a different time zone!) the developments around this important choice americans are asked to do. I will shut down my blogs (no posts!) until wednesday the 5th when the name of the next president will be official because during my breaks I will be watching on tv what's going on . Good luck america! Go vote for a change! For your country and for the rest of the world!

Each luminescent leaf in these LED lamps is made out of recycled plastic casts that are connected together into a branch. The design offers a soft playful intertwining of light and shadows.
The combined use of effecient LED technology with receyled material makes the Leaft lamps a very viable eco choice for your house or business.

Qbic Hotels is a Low Cost Design Hotel Company. The hotel rooms have a very futuristic design. Central to this is the Cubi, a cube-shaped state-of-the-art living space. Each Cubi features a practical set-up; an extra long handmade Hästens bed, Philippe Starck design bathroom elements, LCD TV, safe and high-speed Internet, and an ingenious work-and-dine set. Each Cubi comes with different colored lighting, creating different moods: Mellow Yellow, Red Romance or Deep Purple Love. Locations: Amsterdam, Antwerp and Maastricht.

This bookshelf uses nails as the main structure. A bit of paint and some doll feet and hands will create the “arms and legs” of the book holders. The nails are then attached to a backing board. These can be adjusted so that they look like they are supporting books or other objects.

Looking at the two last posts it seems that this house just came up by all working together: fashion designer, artist and architect. Duplicasa was designed by the architect Jürgen Mayer H and it is located in Germany. Wonderful!
